The space between
Staring eyes stuttering over
The impossible word sorry.

Striving against a mountain
Of a tear, growing
Larger with each pause
Between breaths,
The void stretches
Out even as a
Hand reaches out
To refute every truth
That is and isn’t said.

“We love you,” he affirms.
